What is NCS?

The national citizen service is a four week programme that takes the below format.

In your first week you will be travelling with your team up into the country side to an adventure outdoor activities centre. Getting to know each other and experiencing the freedom of being away from home with new friends. Once you’ve said yes you will be placed in a team of 12-15 young people with your friends and new friends – people that could change your life or you change theirs. In this week you’ll get the chance to take part in adrenaline-fuelled activities with your team mates: like rock climbing, kayaking, abseiling and gill scrambling.

Next up, after the weekend you will be reunited with your team, to live away from home in university style accommodation. You get your own flat, room and en-suite!! You will get to cook for yourself with the help of your team, and there will be a come dine with me competition towards the end of the week to show your team leaders your skills. You will also learn some huge life skills that will make you stand out and have a killer CV. During this week you will become a qualified first aider, learning about different charities and developing new personal skills. We also do some training with the blind, the Academy Self Defence and Drug Awareness.

In these two weeks you get to put all the skills that you have learnt into practice as a team. Agreeing on a social action project that will really make a mark on your local community. This is your chance to do something amazing, plan your own project, fundraise for it and make it happen. It might be renovating an area, raising money for a charity, setting up a youth club or setting up sports camps. These are your own ideas to make a difference.

Once you have completed the programme, we get to celebrate with a big graduation. We invite parents, players, MP’s your teachers to come and celebrate you completing the programme and watch you come on stage and collect your certificate. After the ceremony we have a big party to finish the NCS in style, this year we had a disco, photo booths and an amazing party. Once you are a graduate you are part of the NCS graduate and you will be invited to some of the greatest shows and events nationwide, and we constantly develop ways to keep you involved with us and the community.
