 OPERATION 80s/90s CHILDHOOD IS HERE!

What if we could give young people something smartphones can’t?

More music. More creativity. More hobbies. More connection. More childhood.

Over the last two years, around 100 young people have taken part in our 3-week brick-phone challenge.

And they told us something powerful:

  •  “I felt better.”
  •  “I slept better.”
  •  “I did more.”

❤️ “My relationships with my family improved.”

But there was one problem…

When the smartphone came back, it was hard.

So now we’re going bigger.

?Operation 80s/90s Childhood is a four-year project to rebuild the offline world — bringing back the music, hobbies, creativity, community and simple fun that so many of us remember from growing up.

Expect:

  • 80s/90s Club
  • Retro Games Club
  • Repair & Retro Tech Workshop
  • A physical music library of vinyl, CDs & cassettes
  • Back to Childhood: A Night of 80s/90s Anthems — 12 February 2027, featuring Miss Harrison’s Dad and DJ Chris Cowey, Top of the Pops producer
  • Community Meeting — 18 March 2027, with Marie Tidball MP invited to chair
  • Our 3-week Brick-Phone Challenge — 26 April–17 May 2027

And this week, our students are taking the project into the community, delivering leaflets to neighbours and asking for donations of old technology, music and gadgets.

We want this to become a community movement. Something Sheffield can be proud of. ❤️

So, if you've got an old:

  • Radio
  • Games console
  • Cassette player
  • CD player
  • Music player
  • Vinyl, CDs or cassettes
  • Old phone or retro gadget

…please consider donating it to school.

Let's give young people a reason to look up, switch off and discover the world around them.

Operation 80s/90s Childhood starts now.
